Q&A - questions & answers (….hopefully the right one’s)

You’ve got some questions? Let’s see whether we can help you to answer them …

CIRC stands for Copenhagen International Rotary Club and is one out of over 32,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries around the globe.

We are one out of several clubs in Copenhagen – nevertheless the only one which performs “its business” only in English. Our goal is to have an even balance of Danish and International members (50:50), “old” and “young” (average age 52), male and female (50:50). Due to this setting and especially the “international members” part, we do have an unmatched fluctuation, which brings always new members, new contacts, new ideas and a lot of dynamic into our club. Therefore we are proud to say: “We are one of the most dynamic and pragmatic Rotary clubs”. Our “Danish” content though secures our contacts and roots into the Danish society and life.

What is CIRC all about?

… well, we would say mainly friendship and fun! The rest of the Rotary idea we build around this important frame. Therefore you cannot “just join” but have to be accepted by all members. This is the reason why we invite people who contact us or show interest. As visitor you are able to get to know us and vice versa. Usually you’ll be able to visit twice with no expense. In order to register for a visit you either can register on circ.dk or send an e-mail to Steve Pickering circ.extension@gmail.com

What is Rotary all about?

Rotary International is the world's first service club organization. Its more than 1.2 million members volunteer their time and talent to further the Rotary motto, Service above Self.

We are nonpolitical, nonreligious and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. As signified by the motto “service above self”, Rotary’s main objective is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world.

… our values?

Core values are those of Rotary - high ethical standards, friendship and the will to contribute to the club’s life and sharing our hands in order to provide humanitarian service.

Could you share our values? Here is a simple test, which has been translated into more than 100 languages. Asks the following questions:

Of the things I think, say or do

1.                       Is it the TRUTH?

2.                       Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3.                       Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

4.                       Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

What are “humanitarian services”

There are plenty of projects out there, which we supported in the past and still do. Just some to name: We do have and support exchange students (students as well as young professionals) within the Rotary framework, Demining in Sri Lanka, building schools and helping with equipment (locally and internat.) and plenty of others.

By far our most important and biggest project so far is the most recent one – the Shelter Box
